Soccer mad Solomons hanging on results of Cup
Updated
Solomon Islands is currently hosting the country's most popular biennial event, the Solomon Cup soccer championship. The population of Honiara swells and businesses thrive as thousands of people from the provinces flock into the capital to support their provincial teams.
People throughout the country who cannot make it to the Lawson Tama stadium to watch will be listening to live commentary on the national radio, the SIBC. They are so passionate about the game that hooliganism is also evident, and sometimes it becomes violent and gets out of hand.
The semi-finals of the championship have just been played, where Choiseul played Malaita, and Guadalcanal faced Honiara.
Presenter: Geraldine Coutts
Speaker: Bart Basia, soccer commentator and the SIBC's Manager of Programs
