Security Concerns for Solomons Cup Final
Updated
Players and match officials have been told to avoid inflaming fans during Saturday's Solomon Cup soccer final. Police are concerned that a history of ethnic violence between Malaita and Guadacanal could encourage violence amongst spectators during the game. Their concerns come after crowds rioted, looted and burned buildings at the Lawson Tama Stadium and Chinatown two weeks ago. It was in protest over a referee's decision at the start of the nation's most anticipated biennial event.
