PNG airports to get major revamp
Updated
Papua New Guinea is about to begin a major revamp of its airports. A 640 million US dollar program will see sweeping improvements to safety and services, and open up new economic opportunities for people in rural areas. The Asian Development Bank is providing the bulk of the finance, as concessional loans, but the PNG government and the private sector will also make a significant contribution. The first part of the ADB's funding will go towards improvements at 5 airports serving 1-point-5 million people. Charles Andrews, the ADB's Papua New Guinea Country Director says the whole program will take a decade to complete.
