Australia's PM backs island nations' plight
Updated
Australia's Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has again said the plight of the world's island nations is a major reason action on climate change is needed sooner rather than later. Mr Rudd will join other Commonwealth leaders meeting in Trinidad this weekend. But Greenpeace International says Australia is not showing the leadership that's needed to live up to the rhetoric. And its director general, Kumi Naidoo, says so-called climate change refugees from the Pacific will be a sad reality. He hasn't yet given up, though, on the major forum for dealing with climate change globally, the Copenhagen Summit early next month. Our Canberra correspondent Linda Mottram spoke to Mr Naidoo on the line from the Netherlands, and asked him, first whether U-S President Barack Obama's decision to attend at Copenhagen was a boost for the process.
