French Polynesia latest returning President, Gaston Tong Sang, has appointed a new government. It follows the assembly's vote to oust Oscar Temaru and his government after weeks of bickering over the 2010 budget. The move is further evidence of the political instability that has led to no fewer than 11 government changes since 2004.

The vote is not without consequence. The global credit ratings company, Standard and Poor's has reacted by by putting French Polynesia's Triple-B-plus rating on credit watch negative.
