Uncompensated landowners close PNG Kokoda Track

Updated February 5, 2010 10:43:54

Landowners along Papua New Guinea's Kokoda Trail have closed the historic path to trekkers until a promise to develop the area is fulfilled. Mount Kodu landowners say they have not benefited from development projects along Kokoda.

Their chairman, Barney Jack, says while other villages are reaping the benefits from an Australia-PNG development deal, these landowners have missed out.

Mr Jack says the closure is indefinite and that they will be meeting Deputy Prime Minister Sir Puka Temu to address their concerns.
