French Polynesian President views cyclone damage on Bora Bora
Updated
Tahiti's high commission says Tropical Cyclone Oli, which hit the north of Cook Islands earlier this week, has been battering French Polynesia's islands of Bora Bora and Maupiti. The two island groups experienced winds of more than 120 kilometres per hour. Thousands of people spent last night in evacuation centres. Residents obeyed officials to leave their homes on coastal areas, and headed for more solid buildings inland, including town halls, schools or churches.
