New internet technology for PNG academics

Updated February 5, 2010 16:35:14

Academics in Papua New Guinea will soon have an easier way to access the internet. Secure wireless technology is being installed in universities that will access the the world-wide Eduroam Federation. It means researchers and academics from any university connected to the system to log-in as if they were at their own desk - both within PNG and, for that matter, anywhere in the world.

The project is a collaboration between AARNet, Australia's Academic and Research Network, the local equivalent, PNG-Arnet and Queensland University of Technology, the QUT. Dr Gordon Howell is a technical advisor for Divine Word University in PNG, the first institution in the country to get access to the network.
