First Solomon Islander to referee FIFA World Cup

Soccer referee Matthew Taro has made football history - becoming the first Solomon Islander to be appointed to officiate in the FIFA World Cup. Mr Taro's appointment was confirmed by the FIFA Referee Committee at a meeting in Switzerland last Friday. Another Pacific representative, Tevita Makasini, was also chosen to join two teams of referees from the Oceania region.
