Pacific Islanders needed to recreate Polynesian migration
Updated
More than 6,000 years ago, a group of sailors who went on to become the first settlers of French Polynesia settlers set out from China in outrigger canoes. Next month a team will depart from Tahiti to repeat that epic journey - in reverse. Their six-month trip will include stops in Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, before finally ending in China. They will be looking for volunteers from each of the islands to join them along the way.
Presenter: Caroline Lafargue
Speaker: Hiria Ottino, French Polynesian sailor
