New technology to turn patients into doctors

A doctor in the United States is predicting that members of the public will soon be able to use technologies like wireless internet and smartphones to monitor and even treat their own health conditions. People pre-disposed to diabetes will be able to monitor their own glucose levels, pregnant women will do their own ultrasounds... and pill boxes may become a thing of the past, with medication administered remotely.
But with so much information available at consumers' fingertips, will doctors become obsolete?
