PNG women's group call for early elections

A Papua New Guinea women's group has called on the Governor General to dissolve parliament and allow the formation of a new government. The call comes from the "Women in Politics" group, which is a part of the National Women's Council, after parliament gave support to proposed legislation to remove the power of the national ombudsman's office from scrutinising PNG's leaders. The legislation follows criticism from the office of the role of Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare in allowing former Solomon Islands' Attorney General Julian Moti from leaving the country in a PNG Defence Force aircraft in 2006.
