What about the Pacific if Australi and New Zealand merge?

If Australia and New Zealand eventuially become one country, what would happen to New Zealand's Pacific dependencies? That's a question which so far hasn't been raised in the debate over a possible merger between the two neighbours. A recent poll in New Zealand may have given a firm thumbs down to the idea at this stage, but more than 40 per cent of Kiwis thought it was worthwhile to keep talking about the concept.
