Australia's Chief Scientist wants government on climate change

Ten days after the Australian government shelved its emissions trading scheme, the country's chief scientist has called for governments everywhere to show more leadership on climate change.

Professor Penny Sackett says continuing delays in reducing carbon emissions will only mean more drastic measures will be needed later.

In the Pacific, Tuvalu's Director of Environment, Mataio Tekinene has responded to the Australian government's decision saying it is a big disappointment.

He told Pacific Beat last month the decision undermines the hard work his country is doing to fight climate change.

Back in Australia, Professor Sackett is calling on everyone to do their bit to reduce their carbon footprints.

The chief scientist has lent her support to 250 of her colleagues worldwide who are calling for urgent action to address climate change.
