The slogan of the 63rd UN conference on health which opens in a few hours here in Melbourne is 'Making Health Global' and covers everything from the role NGOs and civil society play in achieving the Millennium Development Goals to sport, nutrition and healthy children.

Earlier we heard about the issues of AIDS in the region from Bill Bowtell, executive director of Pacific Friends of the Global Fund which is a high-level advocacy organisation to mobilise regional awareness of the serious threat posed by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria to societies and economies in the Pacific.

Mr Bowtell joins us again, this time to discuss TB and Malaria in the region.

Presenter: Geraldine Coutts
Speaker: Bill Bowtell, executive director of Pacific Friends of the Global Fund
