Prayers for impoverished as UN health meet begins
Updated
The official opening for the 63rd annual United Nations Department of Public Information and Non-Governmental Organisations conference gets underway later this morning in Melbourne with the slogan 'Making Health Global'.
Yesterday, a prayer service at St Paul's Cathedral was held for delegates before moving on to Melbourne's second cathedral, the MCG, to watch an Aussie rules football game.
Misha Coleman, the CEO of AngliCORD - an Anglican church NGO - asked the congregation not to be overwhelmed by the number of children who die each year due to poverty but to look at the lighted candles in the cathedral as individuals with a future and a personal story to tell.
The service contemplated hunger and poverty and prays for the future of the world.
