Medical staff walkout to halt NZ surgeries
Updated
Thousands of medical procedures could be disrupted in New Zealand next week when the nation's medical laboratory workers are expected to go on strike as radiographers and other lab workers are locked in a pay dispute with district health boards.
Participating unions have issued hundreds of notices urging members to limit their work responsibilities, forcing the Auckland Hospital to cancel all elective surgery. And Canterbury District Health Board has suspended some workers for failing to fulfil their work duties.
It has prompted the unions to accuse health authorities of intimidating workers.
