Solomon Islands Speaker candidates nominated

In Solomon Islands, nominations for the Speaker of Parliament have been announced. Former prime ministers Francis Billy Hilly and Sir Allen Kemakeza, former deputy PM Fred Fono, and a former foreign affairs minister Patteson Oti have all been nominated. For the position of deputy speaker former Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua and MP Namson Tran have been put forward.
Parliament will sit tomorrow for the first time since Danny Philip was elected Prime Minister two weeks ago...with a slim majority coalition of members from eight different parties...to vote on the speaker positions
Under Solomon Islands parliamentary law, the Speaker of Parliament is elected by parliament but is not a member of parliament - while the Deputy Speaker is elected from among the members of parliament.
