Samoa's Law Reform Commission says it is developing intellectual property rights laws in an effort to protect traditional knowledge and culture.

The commission says several countries have stolen Samoan traditional knowledge and ideas because laws protecting them are inadequate.

The reform commission is now looking at whether laws on customary lands and titles could be extended to include intellectual property.
