Pac Islanders in Aust want kava ban lifted
Updated
Pacific Islanders in Canberra have been working with the Australian Greens and the government of the Australian Capital Territory to get a ban on kava-drinking lifted.
The ban was imposed in 2009 after a number of deaths in Europe were linked to kava tablets.
Australian authorites were also concerned about reports of kava-abuse in Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.
Siosiua Lafitani Tofua'ipangai, is one of the leading figures in the newly formed Australian Kava Movement.
