Tonga's high speed telecommunications project underway

The ground-breaking ceremony, for a 34 million dollar project is underway to provide high speed internet access to Tonga.
The Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano says it marks the beginning of the construction of the first ever submarine cable system for Tonga, after 35 years relying solely on satellite connections.
The underwater fibre-optic cable will connect Tonga to the Southern Cross Cable - the main trans-pacific link between Australia and the United States.
The new cable is expected to be in place by mid-2013.
