Elite training to get ready for natural disasters

Coping with natural disasters has always been part of life in the Pacific but lately the extent of damage seems to be getting worse.

It's prompted academics from the Asia-Pacific region to develop what's been dubbed the "Disaster University".

It's a global forum to share aspects of disaster preparation and management, from meteorology to urban planning to economics.

To find out more about it, Campbell Cooney spoke to Karl Kim, executive director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center at the University of Hawaii.
