Speakers: Jahir Khan, Solomon Islands Police Commissioner; Fred Fono, Solomon Islands Opposition Leader

The Police Commissioner and the Opposition leader were commenting on claims by Julian Moti reported in the local media while reacting to criticisms by the head of the Australia-led assistance mission, Tim George.

Mr Moti said he thanked God for each day he remained alive.

Mr Moti said and I quote "You only have to read what has happened elsewhere to people with my mentality to know that I won't live long".

He said the typical pattern of the elimination plan is to discredit morally, then attack professionally before arranging an assassination.

Mr Moti said this was the next phase of Australia's vilification campaign against him and he must start writing his epitaph.

Police Commissioner Jahir Khan says the police are not aware of any threats on Julian Moti's life.

He says the attorney general is not provided with armed protection - only the Governor General and Prime Minister are getting armed protection.

SEKE: What about the finance minister and the attorney-general and yourself, have you got police protection?

KHAN: The minister for finance no, the attorney-general no. As far as my residence is concerned, that is normal. There were police officers come and provide security at my residence.

SEKE: The Attorney-General, Julian Moti, has he reported the alleged plans to assassinate him to the police?

KHAN: No, I haven't received any reports.

SEKE: Do you have any intelligence to the effect that Australia, as he was suggesting, was trying to may be assassinate him?

KHAN: I don't have any intelligence to that effect, yes.

SEKE: What he is saying is very serious you know, trying to assassinate the country's attorney-general and although he is not a Solomon Islander, he is the Solomon Islands attorney-general. So, are you going to investigate it?

KHAN; If the matter is reported, definitely we'll be investigating the issue, issues to that extent yes.

FONO: Well, I believe that they are laws of the land and if there are threats, investigate it and make arrests, rather than going to the media.
