Former commander supports military ties with China

Papua New Guinea's Defense Force and the Chinese government have signed a military cooperation agreement. The agreement will see PNG military personnel undergo military studies in China. China has already provided aid to refurbish the PNGDF's headquarters in Port Moresby, Murray Barracks. PNG's traditional military partners have been Australia, New Zealand and the United States, but former PNGDF Commander, General Jerry Singirok says adding China to that list should not be seen as a threat by anyone.
