'Suburban boy' takes out top literary award

A self-described suburban boy from Melbourne has won this year's Miles Franklin Literary Award for his tale of a family living in a run-of-the-mill part of Melbourne.
Steven Carroll's novel 'The Time We Have Taken', explores the complexities of life in the suburbs.
The former teacher and theatre critic has been on the Miles Franklin shortlist twice before.
