US Ambassador to Fiji denies discouraging coup

The outgoing American ambassador to Fiji Larry Dinger says he was discouraging a coup and not encouraging a mutiny when he and two other heads of foreign mission visited the army barracks days before the coup of December 2006. He's reiterated his position as he prepares to leave the South Pacific to take up a new posting with the State Department in Washington.
