Sedition charges dismissed against Tongan journalist
Updated
A Tongan journalist has had sedition charges against him dismissed. Sangster Saulala, a supporter of the Kingdom's pro-democracy movement, was the owner of a private TV station which was shut down during rioting in 2006. He had been facing sedition charges in relation to his station's broadcasts leading up to the riot. But Tonga's Chief Justice, Tony Ford, has dismissed the charges after the government failed to provide sufficient evidence. Sangster Saulala says the charges should never have been laid in the first place.
