Burmese opposition says UN visit achieves nothing
Updated
Burma's main opposition party, the National League for Democracy, has labelled the latest visit by United Nations special envoy Ibrahim Gambari, a 'waste of time'.
Mr Gambari was expected to use the visit to progress negotiations between opposition groups and the ruling military regime. But he failed to meet with either the NLD's leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, or General Than Shwe, Burma's chief military leader. Dr Sann Aung is a member of the NLD living in exile in Bangkok.
