France allows New Caledonia to reinclude question on ethnicity in cens

New Caledonia has been exempted from a French law which would ban it from recording ethnicity as part of its census. This follows protests from locals, who say the question of ethnic background is essential to identify social inequalities in access to health services, education and employment.
