Rescue package for EU banks

Despite a weekend of high level meetings the rough ride for the world economy looks set to continue.
Financial officials from the world's 20 advanced and emerging economies pledged to work together when they met in Washington but they didn't come up with a workable plan to tackle the financial meltdown. The more exclusive G7 meeting of financial ministers was also disappointing - they came up with five guiding principles but no concrete steps to tackle the crisis. Fifteen European countries have moved to bailout Europe's troubled banks in an attempt to avoid a repeat of last week's market meltdown but they haven't yet revealed how much money they're prepared to spend.
