China to help Pakistan build nuclear plants

Pakistan says China will help it build two more nuclear power plants, in a major boost to the country's longterm plans to end crippling electricity shortages.

The agreement with China was among twelve accords signed during President Asif Ali Zardari's recent visit to Beijing. It will also ease somewhat, Pakistani frustration over a recent nuclear agreement between arch rival India and the United States. Few details were released, but the accord deepens Pakistan's longstanding ties with China, at a time when its relations with the US are strained over the campaign against terrorism.
